I survived another Black Friday followed by more Christmas shopping over the weekend.
Black Friday shopping starts earlier and earlier each year. I remember when we had to get up and be at the store when the doors opened about 3 or 4 a.m. We now have to rush through Thanksgiving dinner so we can get to the stores in time to find something left on the shelves by 5 in the afternoon.
Shoppers seem to be in a better mood late on Thursday than early hours on Friday.
It could be the good meal puts us in a good mood for walking around and standing in the long lines. It also could be there are more night owls than early birds.
As I have shared before, my family thinks I am totally crazy because I really don't mind the crowds of Black Friday. I have met some nice people standing in those long lines. I sometimes get bargains to stretch my Christmas budget. I do see alot of the same people year after year so I know I am not alone when I say, I like hunting down those bargains.
My husband has been known to take a few short naps in the car while I am standing in lines.
I can't do the 30 hour shopping marathons I have done in the past. After shopping throughout the night, my husband and I always enjoy an early breakfast on Friday morning, regroup and go again or go home.
Some of my friends do their Black Friday shopping online. It is a good way to get the job done without all of the long lines. I have not tried the Black Friday shopping online but I am not too good at online shopping the rest of the year. I would probably get more upset sitting at the computer than I do in the long lines.
I think I would miss the in-store experience. I like to look at an item and touch it before I make the final decision to purchase it.
My husband and I started our Black Friday shopping tradition about 20 years ago after our children were grown. We have managed to get some really good bargains through the years. Some years are not so good. Looking around my house, just to name a few Black Friday items, we are still using two televisions, a pressure cooker, an air fryer, a toaster oven, a couple of laptops, and two or three cameras. Those are big items but we have been known to purchase new towels and sheets at a low price.
Each year I wonder if we will have one more Black Friday in us and so far we have managed to keep up the tradition. I don't like to brag but I can outshop people half my age.
The one thing I do miss is buying toys for little ones. In the early years of our Black Shopping experiences our grandchildren were young and we could find bicycles, motorized cars, kitchen sets, baby dolls and other popular toys of the year.
We need to get our running shoes on because December is just a few days away. It is the busy season with Christmas parades, church presentations, cantatas, band concerts, choir concerts, basketball games, shopping, family/friend gatherings, decorating, baking, and all of the other activities that go with the season.
We just have a little over three weeks and Christmas will be here.
As far back as I can remember Christmas has always been and still is one of my favorite times of the year.
Let's enjoy Christmas and not forget to take time to remember the reason for the season.
