It is hard to remember being a teenager but I am sure all of the young men and women in the area are counting the days until graduation.
It is a happy and sad time all mixed together for parents. We really do want our children to grow up but it is hard to turn loose and let it happen.
Proms, plays, awards day, graduation practice, end of course tests and many more activities make for very busy last weeks of high school. The seniors are all looking forward to graduation.
As I look back, I don't know why we were in such a hurry to get out of school.
Our young people will be going out into the work force, colleges and universities and military. They will be starting their own lives.
It is an exciting time for them and I guess it is okay if we let them think (at least for a few weeks) they will not have to answer to parents, teachers, or anyone ever again now that they are all grown up.
Like we did, they will learn soon enough, we still have to get up every morning, go to college classes or to work (or both). There is always someone we have to answer to.
Really, graduation is an accomplishment for our young people and I want to say congratulations to all of them. They didn't realize it but they set a goal when they started to kindergarten and now they are about to make that goal a reality.
We have all heard before, it is easier to quit than to finish. These young people have taken the more difficult route and are about to graduate. They are about to finish high school and eventually become doctors, lawyers, farmers, nurses, teachers, builders, plumbers, electricians and leaders in the commuities they chose to call home.
I hope all of their dreams come true and they take with them some good high school memories.
