For the first time in over 60 years Easter Sunday will fall on April 1 (April Fools Day). The next time it happens will be in 2029. I hope I am still around (I will only be 79 years old). If I am still around I more than likely will not be writing a column each week.
I am not smart enough to know exactly which Sunday Easter will fall on from year to year. It is figured with the moon and the calendar. I did read where Easter Sunday can fall between March 22 and April 25. Sometimes it comes in early and sometimes late.
I have written many columns on Easter since I have been with the Town Crier. I can honestly say my feelings have not changed. Easter means the same to me today as it did when I started writing years ago. It is a wonderful day.
Easter is the day we set aside to remember the day our Savior Jesus came out of the grave. For the believers it is a wonderful event to remember. It is our hope.
In addition to Easter being a day to remember the resurrection of our Lord, I always look back with some very good childhood memories of Easters long ago.
We enjoyed going to Grandma's house, hunting Easter eggs, visiting with cousins and having lots of good food.
When I was growing up we always went shopping for a new Easter dress or my mom would make us a new dress for the day. A new dress, white patent leather shoes, and an Easter hat. It was just a good time to be a child.
I also have good memories of being a young mother with my own children on Easter. Like the generation before them, they always enjoyed their Easter baskets filled with goodies and coloring eggs.
After church we would take them to visit their grandparents and they would hunt Easter eggs all afternoon.
Like other people my age, I can continue with my memories of when our grandchildren were young. Today our youngest grandchild is 11 and our oldest is 22. They are all about to outgrow hunting eggs but I hope they never outgrow remembering what makes Easter special. I hope occassionally they can look back with fond memories from their growing up years and Easter Sundays gone by.
Easter also reminds me spring has arrived. I am enjoying watching the grass turn green and the flowers start to bloom.
As far as Aprils Fool Day, I have never been much of a prankster so therefore it has never been one of my favorite days. I can live with a few harmless pranks all in good fun but I do not try to fool anyone.
