October has arrived and hopefully we can all celebrate cooler temperatures. Most years October brings cooler weather for us to enjoy after the high temperatures of July and August.
I decided it is time to go to my source (Google) and see what is ahead for us in the upcoming days.
We think of October as just another month on the way to the special days like Thanksgiving or Christmas.
I looked on my calendar of events for October and discovered every day has something we can celebrate. We don't have to wait until November.
As a matter of fact, the month of October includes: Adopt a Shelter Dog Month; American Pharmacist Month; Awareness Month; Breast Cancer Awareness Month; Clergy Appreciation Month; Computer Learning Month; Cookie Month; Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Eat Country Ham Month; International Drum Month; National Diabetes Month; National Pizza Month; National Vegetarian Month; National Popcorn Popping Month; Sarcastic Month; and Seafood Month.
For week long celebrations there is Week 1 – get organized week or Customer Service Week. Week 2 is Fire Prevention Week or Pet Peeve Week. Oct. 14-20 is Earth Sciences Week and Week 3 is Pastoral Care Week.
I would like to say I will get organized during the month of October but it probably won't happen.
Every day there is something on the “unique” calendar of events for us to think about.
Did you know Oct. 1 was National Homemade Cookies Day? Sorry I missed telling you this in time for you to bake a batch of homemade cookies for friends and family.
Other days include:
Oct. 4 is National Golf Day and National Frappe Day. I am not very good at golf but I can enjoy a frappe with the best.
Oct. 5 – Do Something Nice Day and World Teacher's Day. We could combine the day's events and do something nice for a teacher. We would have both covered.
Oct. 9 is a familiar date - Columbus Day. It comes around the second Monday of October. It is also Fire Prevention Day which would be a good day to make sure the batteries in the smoke alarms are all working.
Oct. 17 is National Fossil Day on Wednesday of Earth Sciences Week.
Oct. 12 is Moment of Frustration Day. I really think we could pencil that in any day of any month on the calendar.
Oct. 13 falls on Friday and everyone knows Friday the 13th can be a disturbing day for some. I try to treat Friday the 13th just like any other Friday. I am not a scary movie fan so I have not watched all of the Friday 13th movies. Evidently, the day makes a popular movie topic as it seems we have Friday the 13th, II, III, Friday 13th the Final, then a New Beginning Friday 13th, and the movies go on.
Some of the other days include:
Oct. 16 -- Bosses Day.
Oct. 17 -- Wear Something Gaudy Day.
Oct. 22 -- Mother-in-law Day.
Oct. 24 -- National Bologna Day.
Oct. 31 -- Halloween, the one children look forward to.
I just mentioned a few of the special days on the October calendar – every day has two or three things we can celebrate.
One of the special days in October for my family will be our grandson's 16th birthday. We have four granddaughters and one grandson. Two granddaughters have December birthdays and one in February and one in September.
