Spring is nearPosted Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at 11:34 AM
March is here and we can all look forward to spring. Daylight savings time will begin March 13 and spring will officially arrive March 20.
I am getting a bit of spring fever and I am looking forward to longer days, warmer weather and getting out more.
It is time to put up the winter coats and start planning spring vacation. Once again we are experiencing higher gas prices which could make us cut back on our traveling plans.
Just when I began to think we were seeing a little light on our economy, the gas prices started escalating.
When the gas prices go up, so does everything. I am hearing rumors of much higher prices at the gas pumps and we can only hope they are only rumors.
It seems we have this every year or two and the prices usually go up during the vacation season. Maybe we should confuse things by working all summer and taking our vacations in the winter months -- just a thought.
I do think the price of gas will keep some of us a little closer to home. I worry about the people that have to drive 40 or 50 miles to work every day. I know it will take a bite out of their spending money.
When the prices go up it is a good time to look around and see if there is anyone available for car pooling. It can save a lot. I remember back in the 1960's my mother and several women from Manila would all ride in one vehicle to a factory in Osceola. They would either alternate driving or just pay so much a day to ride. Many people only had one vehicle in those days and the family had to share.
My husband and I only had one car during our first few years of marriage. It was all we needed. Times have changed and today almost every family is at least a two-car family. One vehicle just could not keep up with today's schedules. None of us stay home anymore.
I hope we have a few weeks we can turn off the heater and not use the air conditioner. Spring fever is in the air and I am looking forward to it. I have big plans to clean my closets and get on a good walking plan for exercise. Hopefully, I will get around to my spring cleaning.
I do want to wish our basketball teams going to state tournaments good luck.
